Who should get a hearing test?
Everyone can benefit from having one. Hearing is so important to the quality of our lives. The process of hearing loss is so slow that a person may not notice there is a problem until it is severe. A baseline hearing test can be useful as a record of how your hearing is in case of an accident or for insurance purposes. Monitoring your hearing should be a part of your routine health care.
What is a hearing test like?
The hearing exam starts with a series of questions. Next, you’ll listen to a series of tones, left and right ear separately, to determine if your hearing is ok. If a loss is detected, a more complex set of tests is required to pinpoint exactly what the problem is and determine what is needed to correct it. J. D. recommends that you bring a spouse or family member with you to the test. Plan on 15-20 minutes for the tone test. The more extensive test can take 40 minutes to an hour.
